It all started on Friday the thirteenth in October. I was in my room getting ready for school. Afterwards I started walking down the hall when I heard a loud thud from behind me. I turned around and saw a picture frame down on the floor. I picked it up and saw it was a photograph of me. The glass over the picture had cracks down the middle of my face. I hanged it back up on the wall and didn’t want to deal with it right now. After that I headed down stairs and ate a quick breakfast.
Afterwards, I ran to the garage and got my bike then started pedaling to school. While I was pedaling, I came to a busy intersection and pulled on the breaks on my handlebars, however, my bike wouldn’t stop. I was still going. I kept pulling on the break handles but still couldn’t stop. To avoid collision, I quickly put my feet down and started to swerve off the pavement then I fell off my bike.
I laid on the ground for a few seconds feeling hurt. Then I heard someone laughing softly in the distance. I started to look around but I couldn’t see anyone. When I got back up, I walked over to my bike to take a look, and I found the break cables from the back of my bike were broken off. When I was done, I picked up my bike and started walking the rest of the way to school.
Later when I got to school, I went to my first period, which was English class.
My teacher started handing out a quiz. As we began the test, I started reading the questions.
While I was writing down my answers, I heard someone was calling my name. I suddenly looked around, but everyone was concentrating on their test. I went back on my test then heard my name again. Suddenly, I accidentally bumped my eraser on the floor. I bent over to pick it up. When I sat back down I looked over my paper again, I stared in terror and saw a message written over my paper in red bold letters:
I'M GONNA TAKE OVER YOUR LIFE!
I began to look around and started asking my peers near me if they seen anyone that came over to my desk. They basically said that they didn't notice anything or see anyone. I was beginning to feel suspicious more and more. There wasn't enough time left to do my test as I tried to rewrite my answers before it was over.
It was lunchtime and I sat with my friends Kayla and Tom. As we eat our lunch, I started talk to them about what's happened to me today.
“I don’t know what wrong with me,” I murmured.
“It’s probably bad luck your having, dude,” said Tom.
“Yeah,” Kayla interrupted. “It is Friday the thirteenth after all.”
“I guess,” I said.
I wanted to believe it was just bad luck, but I feel that it was more than that.
When school was over, I headed to the library near the school to do my part-time job. I figured if I work, I could try to forget my day.
It was getting late, I started putting books back on shelves. It was very quiet at the library. Practically not many people come here.
While working, I felt like someone was watching me. I kept thinking to myself that its nothing.
Suddenly, I heard a sound behind me. I turned around quickly.
“Hello?” I stuttered. “Is anyone there?”
I listened carefully and there was no response. I turned back in front and continued walking, carrying books to their proper shelves.
All of a sudden, I heard a thud behind me. I jumped quickly and saw a book on the floor that must have fallen from its shelf.
As I walked towards the book and kneeled down to picked it up, I heard a squeaky noise beside me. I turned my head and with great shock, a bookshelf was falling right towards me.
I quickly jumped out of the way as books were falling down heavily. I began to breathe deeply.
All of a sudden, I heard laughter nearby and saw a dark, shadowy figure behind the other side of the bookshelf.
I called out to him as I was getting up.
“Hey!” I shouted. “Hey you! Come back here!”
He began running as I was following him. I was trying gaining up to him but he was too fast. He was trying lot of maneuvers around the library halls trying to lose me. I had to cut him off somehow.
“Stop right there!” I shouted.
I was still staying on top of him but the person ran around the corner. He was heading for the front doors! He was getting away! I gritted my teeth and tore around the corner after him. I then took a different route away from him. He got lost and was cornered at the end of a wall. I finally got him trapped. And suddenly I stood face to face with him.
To my surprise, what I saw in front of me was a person that looked exactly like me.
"Who are you?" I panted.
"Who?" The boy panted as he was laughing. “What? Haven’t you figured it out yet?”
“I don’t know,” I replied.
“It means ‘I’m Your Evil Twin’. He gave me a mocking smile. "And I'm taking over your life, Shawn.”
The words he said put shivers down my spine. I was staring at my double in the face in terror.
“What?!” I exclaimed. “Why do you want to take over my life?”
“So I can take your place and pull pranks on everyone close to you,” he answered. “Once I’ve done that, I’ll show everyone how bad you are.”
“No!” I shouted. “I won’t let you do that!”
I then started running angrily towards him. All of a sudden, I started to feel weak. My legs collapsed as I fell to the floor. I then began seeing my self disappear.
“What’s happening with me?!” I asked.
I looked up at my evil twin as he stared back at me with a grin on his face.
“Goodbye, Shawn.”
The next morning, I woke up in my bed feeling restless. I then reflect on what happen to me last night. I came to think it was a dream.
I went down stairs to kitchen when I heard my mom talking.
“Would you like more pancakes, Shawn?” she asked
Then I heard a voice talk back.
“Sure, thanks Mom.”
As I walked in the kitchen, I saw my mom cooking; my dad was reading the newspaper and a third person sitting behind me was at the table eating.
“Who is this?” I asked.
Neither of my parents didn’t look at me nor say anything. I asked again.
No response. The person in the chair turned towards me and then to my surprise, I saw him. My doppelganger was sitting at the table staring at me with a grin on his face.
“Hello, Shawn,” he said. “I have now become you.”
